ABOUT US

Building a sustainable future for Portuguese creators

WHY Portugal is Portugal’s export office for music, founded in 2016 by AMAEI and working on behalf of all Portuguese music sectors. WHY Portugal is a registered non-profit association supported by AUDIOGEST and Fundação GDA through their respective neighbouring rights cultural funds; and for select missions and projects we also work with AICEP Portugal Global – Trade & Investment Agency and DGartes, the Portuguese Arts Council.

WHY Portugal is a member of EMEE – European Music Exporters Exchange, and a member of ESNS Exchange.

WHY Portugal operates on a dual front: supporting the national music industry while engaging with international showcase festivals and strategic global partners.

In international markets, we:

  • Establish partnerships to promote Portugal’s ‘Country Focus’ at international showcases and conferences;
  • Develop partnerships with major events to secure better conditions for Portuguese professionals and artists (discounts, collective missions, etc.);
  • Promote the national music industry to international programmers and festival bookers to ensure Portugal remains a priority on their event agendas.

National professionals and artists can reach out to us whenever they:

  • Seek more information regarding international markets;
  • Have questions about their internationalization strategy;
  • Require advice or assistance in contacting international industry professionals;
  • Wish to share suggestions and add value to our mission.
